Genetic Technologies Core

The Advanced Genetic Technologies Core provides a range of services related to the manipulation and delivery of nucleic acids to biological systems. Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Production and titering of recombinant viral vectors, including
    • Lentiviruses
    • Adenoviruses
    • Adeno-associated viruses
  • Subcloning
  • Tagging of open reading frames
  • Development of plasmids and/or RNAs for CRISPR/Cas manipulation
  • piggyBac transposon delivery systems
  • Real-time PCR analysis
  • Recombineering
  • In vitro transcription  

 The Core maintains an extensive stock of plasmids that provide components for building constructs envisioned by the investigator and provides consultative services to devise an efficient plan for their realization. We can also provide monoclonal antibodies directed against the HA, myc, and FLAG tags.

The Core also provides training opportunities in the technologies described above, either as a for-credit, one semester class or on a project-related, fee-based basis.

Current charges for the services provided by the Core are summarized below. Projects requiring the purchase of specialized reagents not currently available in the Core may incur additional material fees. UK faculty and staff are supplemented to the extent of 75% by the COBRE P30 grant. Users outside UK will pay the listed fee. For faculty with limited resources, the COBRE P30 grant provides competitive vouchers that can be applied for to cover the cost of core usage. To apply for a voucher click here.
